He preaches the message we have grown to love methinks ie that this Christian life we have, can only be lived by the life of Christ alone, in us. Christ in us, the hope of glory. Also that that life can be lived by "Any Old Bush" ie US......(sling)
I am loving this mans heart and ability to pass on this truth.

I checked it out with Onyx and he suggested I post it on Papa Home.
I so miss this place....:( (5 replies)

Has anyone ever seen the program, "Flip this House", I think that's what has been happening at my house. And I'm just tired...I think I could possibly sleep for days, but again that's not so, I always seem to wake up after just six hours.
The stuff that has been going on here and still is, is so numerous and extensive I'd have to write a novel. When you say the phrase, "well, it can't get much worse than this", don't say that, cause it's not true! Here is a list of what has been going on, my parents, husbands parents-health issues and needing a little more help, both sets do not live close. Children-marriage, jobs, money, all three of them live at least an hour or more from us. Grandchildren, illness and their parents really don't need to miss work. Then there has been the crazy weather here. We actually were without electricity for 2 weeks and were using a generator, as was my parents, that was a very hectic 2 weeks and expensive. In just the past week, I was on my way to doctor, just a annual check up, this is about a 40 minute drive and on my way, a young lady called me and said she was told I took in birds, "uh, okay?", she had a cockatiel that her small sons were pulling the feathers out, she had taken the bird when another friend was shipped out but she needed to find a good home for her, (the bird was not a her, it was a he) I arranged to meet her after my appointment, I brought home another bird that can't fly because he's missing so many feathers and kept 2 grands, ran to husbands parents home to run some errands for them because on the same day as my appointment, my mother in law was getting out of the hospital. Oh, my doctor said my health was really good, I just had an Urinary tract infection, and I did not even know...weird.
But mostly I miss all you guys! I think of this place so much, I don't even have time to be writing right now and have been interrupted 4 times. I fall asleep with my iPod at night, I just need to hear what I so very badly miss, I miss interacting with others that see and believe like I do.
So, I guess I just don't want you to think I've abandoned this place or anyone here. Soon, maybe things will calm down a little, and I'll have more time for myself. But until then, I pray for you, I think of you and may Father's love bless you every day.

Us and Them? (3 replies)

It has been brought to my attention that some posts here may be advocating an "Us and Them" mentality; a divisive stance between this community and another. Please DO NOT consider this to be what Papa's Home is about. We are merely another branch on the vine, and so don't need to concern ourselves with comparisons, as we all descend from the same root; Jesus the Messiah.

In saying that, do feel free to vent your spleen, as this is a place of safety to do so. Currently only the Prayer Closet is out of bounds to non-registered members. If you'd like another room as well, eg The Lavatory (you know what that's for!), then vote here (laugh) - seriously; I want to know!

If you think that your brother or sister's post can be taken offensively in this manner, please PM them for clarification.
December Newsletter (no replies)

Here it is, hot off the press:

Dear Reader,

Here we are in December...why is it that as we age the years go faster?? Papa's Home has grown quickly over the past month; we now have over 20 active members. That's a big family! And a neat family too. I love you all.

My own children are all excited about the arrival of Christmas; every day my 4yo boys ask, "How long 'til christmas?" Yet we are attempting to downplay and divert the whole christmas issue, as it is so commercialised here it's farcical. But due to the rest of the world stopping, we will be seeing family, and spending some time with them, so I will be off the air for a while.

In this newsletter I wanted to open up the chance for another member to have their say. CShell has graciously provided a post on the subject of Christmas; here: [papashome.com] for you to comment on.

Here is a teaser:

"I'm not putting up my Christmas tree this year. It's the first time in my life. Having been raised in a family that goes all out for Christmas (decorating inside and out, playing Christmas songs continually, baking, buying, etc.), I feel disloyal to my heritage. Kind of like when I left the institutional church.

And like I did when I left the church, I need to dismantle my beliefs, examine things I've always taken for granted, get dis-illusioned….about Christmas. I'd like to share some of the things I'm thinking, and would love to know the things you're thinking.

Christmas time in my part of the world comes in the darkest, dreariest time of year. Daylight, sunshine, color and beauty are in short supply. But when I'd put up my tree, with its hundreds of lights and ornaments treasured for 40 years, it was like I was pushing back the darkness for awhile, warding it off. Is that…healthy? Are there some harmless, possibly beneficial ways to escape reality?"
More at [papashome.com]

What are you doing this Christmas? How about adopting a mouse? [papashome.com]
Or a cockatiel? [papashome.com]

And don't forget to list your prayer requests in the Prayer Closet; [papashome.com]

I would also like to take this opportunity to address the few members who have signed up, but not yet posted...please don't be shy, folks! We don't bite! In fact we may even have some (virtual) fried Oreo cookies here for you...but you have to find them :D

Again, if you are having issues understanding how the forum works, or unsure about something, you can email me at: admin@papashome.com

Peace, love and joy in Christ Jesus!

Love
Onyx

Dear onyx,

Wow, the first month in Papa's Home has flown by so quickly! And I want to thank you all for registering, and joining in the discussion, and telling others about Papa's Home. We have a lot of interesting topics and fun stuff; everything from Mamma Mia to Piano steps on Youtube, Dismantling Belief to Worshipping Papa!

Thanks for the encouraging comments we have already received! It's appreciated hugely. :D

If you have any constructive criticism please say so! You can talk to CShell, Michael, or me(onyx)... we are the admin team. (I look after the back-end technical stuff too.)

We would really like to get to know you better too, so when you feel okay with sharing, drop into The Lounge, and add a post to the thread "Your Story", or "Introductions", or just start a new topic, and call it "onyx's Story" for instance.

The (rudimentary) User's Guide in the Foyer is there to give you some clues if you are new to forum usage. Otherwise, you can send me an email, or ask in the forum if you are unsure about something.

Have you thought about adding an Avatar to your posts? An avatar is a small picture that you choose to represent you. This can be uploaded from your computer to Papa's Home, by going into Control Centre, Avatar, and selecting a small image from your computer using browse. If you have an image in mind, but need help resizing it, just ask.

We have had a few technical difficulties with our web server in the past month, that has meant outage, missing emails, and missing posts...but that should be all sorted now. Thanks for your patience and prayers!

User's Guide: [papashome.com]
Avatar: [papashome.com]
Email: admin@papashome.com

Blessings in Christ Jesus!

Love
Onyx

Blogs (6 replies)

Looking at blogs from a usability and approachability perspective, I am wondering whether it was wise of me to limit replies to blogs, so that the blogs could be only commented upon outside of the blog's realm.

The status quo pros:

The blogger is free to create their own rant zone without interference

The site is a lot tidier without replies

A train of thought / a "series" can be followed, allowing the blogger to articulate something they have been studying

The status quo cons:

The blogger is free to create their own rant zone without interference- can be lonely too!

Replies are part of being community

If I have an agenda to push, you can bet I will try to use this method (Although there is no certainty that anyone will read my blog nor buy into whatever agenda I am peddling!)

Users who want to reply to it are hampered in their efforts to do so, by the format of having to copy/paste into another forum area.

In replying to the blog, there is nothing to link the two together, so that a casual observer knows what the community thinks of the blog posting. This makes it appear as though the community endorses the blog posting wholeheartedly, barring one or two dissident voices. That could be dangerous and divisive.

Does being the owner of a blog here make you somehow elite? Or at least appear that way to others? In a really small community it would be possible to give everyone a blog, but as the site grows, that becomes really unwieldy and hard to maintain.

IF we let people comment on blogs, then there is actually not a whole lot of point having them- they are just the same as a forum, except that they are named differently. It then enables a user to dominate the blog with all of their postings (unless the blog owner gets tough with moderation)...which dilutes the purpose further.

So what thinketh thou? Hehe at least you can reply to this right now, before I turn it into a BLOG :P

Spirit Storming Papa's Home (1 reply)

This site is not to "steal members" from anybody, nor run from issues; rather to provide the sort of environment that I (we?) believe to be most beneficial to continued growth on the journey with God. I will still participate in TGJ also, obviously depending on time allowances. It is also something that I've juggled around in my little noggin for a long time now, and timing is right ;-) . But I also think it's crucial that I bring on board those who are wise and can hold me accountable too (I mean apart from wifey!), hence why I am speaking to you all.

Now we are SpiritStorming (brainstorming) the nature and needs of this place...

Cool? Let's start with a list of descriptives :

encouraging
comfortable
safe
loving
stretching
unique

family friendly -- "if your Grandma or your 10 year old daughter was reading it..."
open -- " open to you, your ideas, your journey with God...not necessarily agreeing with them!"
responsible -- "prepared to do what seems right in any given situation" ...which leads to
confrontational / discipline -- "if necessary, confrontation in love bringing discipline will occur. "
private -- "your data is yours alone, we will do the utmost to ensure it is never used for nefarious purposes, eg spam, character assassination"
heretical -- "refuse to adhere to any given set of dogmas; scripture is for reading and interpreting as the Spirit leads us"
forgiving -- "where repentance is, there is forgiveness"
healing -- "a place of recuperation"
hypocritical -- "Only kinda tongue-in-cheek...if I'm there it's a fact..."
connecting -- "where people can connect with one another, and in a different way with Father"
code of conduct -- "everyone agrees to a code of conduct in order to conduct themselves on the site...we don't invite ourselves into our neighbour's house, then run around breaking everything and hurting people, now do we? ;-) "

Any more you can throw in there?

What Papa's Home is All About (6 replies)

Welcome!

This web site is a community of those that choose to be here, to support one another, in life with God. The name Papa's Home comes from the scripture John 14:2, "In My Papa's Home there are many rooms. If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you," which is a slight paraphrase of scripture, to give our Heavenly Father the informal, personal, familiar diminutive. We, the founders, are of the belief that our Heavenly Father would have us address Him in this way, just as His Son, Jesus did.

It is open to people of all faiths and creeds, for we are all His children, that makes us brothers and sisters.

We hope that you will join us in this community, in discussion, in friendship, in desire to know better our Papa.

Again, Welcome! Feel free to dive in and enjoy yourself, but do read and abide by the House Rules.
:)
